Dellwood Park Community Center Building

Lockport Township Park District Information

Created in 1945, the Lockport Township Park District provides park areas and recreation programs in order to enrich the quality of life of the community.

The Park District has created many opportunities of renovating and beautifying existing parks and initiating the building of a number of new parks in recent years such as Hawthorne Preserve, Sagebrook and Oak Creek to name a few. Each location offers an array of recreational experiences that includes one or more of the following: open play and open spaces, playgrounds, areas for sports such as soccer and baseball, trails for outdoor fitness, a place for games such as horseshoes and volleyball, pavilions for family picnics and parties, spray parks and handicap access. Recently, The Canyons, Dellwood Park’s Disc Golf Course, was rated #1 in Illinois by UDisc.com and #5 in the world. In essence, the Lockport Township Park District maintains 41 parks or approximately 950 acres.

The Park District also maintains 19 facilities located within the District’s boundaries. Some of these facilities include: Prairie Bluff Public Golf Club, an 18-hole golf course that exhibits a full-service pro shop and clubhouse complete with a restaurant and bar and banquet facility; Challenge Fitness, the only fitness facility in Lockport that has seven indoor tennis courts, an indoor pool, two steam rooms, and whirlpool along with many other amenities; Chaney Pool and Heritage Falls Water Park, L.T.P.D.’s two outdoor aquatic facilities; as well as a Dellwood Park Community Center, which is a 21,000 square foot facility with multipurpose rooms and full size gym all available to rent for special occasions such as birthday parties, three state-of-the-art preschool classrooms and our administration offices are also at this location, museum, and other Park District properties to name a few. Furthermore, the Park District also hosts hundreds of recreational programs for people of all ages. Special events and holiday celebrations run throughout the year inviting the community to participate in everything from concerts, art and flower shows, golf outings, pool parties, and events for almost every holiday listed on the calendar as well as some extra unique offerings.

In 2020, the Lockport Township Park District celebrated its 75th Anniversary.
